Surfshark doesn’t only work with US Netflix but with 10 other international Netflix libraries, too.
It’s a fairly quick VPN, but Surfshark’s speeds aren’t quite as fast as the other VPNs we recommend in this article.
In our most recent Surfshark speed tests we found the VPN reduced our download speed by around 15%, compared to as little as 7% from ExpressVPN.
Sadly, you might not always be able to unblock BBC iPlayer through Surfshark’s Fire TV app, though.
For Kodi fans, Surfshark comes with several VPN servers optimized for torrenting traffic, and its no-logs policy will ensure you stay safe while using it.
Like most VPNs, you can’t install Surfshark directly onto Kodi, but running it alongside Kodi will ensure all your streaming and downloads are protected.
The only drawback is that you have to manually select a P2P server to get it to work. They’re well-labeled and easy to find, though.
On a two year subscription you can get Surfshark for just $2.30 per month. This is a very good price for a VPN of this calibre.
For that price you get almost all the advanced features you could want on Firestick. There’s a kill switch to make sure your traffic doesn’t get exposed and a LAN exemption to allow traffic on your local network while the VPN is connected.
There’s also a whitelist feature to let you split tunnel certain apps inside or outside the VPN. The only feature missing is obfuscation for connecting from highly-censored regions like UAE or China.
For a VPN founded in 2018, Surfshark is doing very well to come second on this list.

CyberGhost’s custom VPN app for Fire TV Stick is very easy to set up and use. It’s well laid out for the Firestick remote, and all the advanced features are quick to find and toggle on/off.
Connecting to the VPN itself takes less than a second, leading to a really smooth user experience.
We like CyberGhost’s privacy-friendly no-logs policy too, giving you peace of mind that all of your personal information stays protected.
CyberGhost is based in Romania one of the strongest privacy jurisdictions in Europe.
CyberGhost includes a kill switch, which isn’t that common on Firestick. This is a great privacy-focused addition which will prevent your Firestick from connecting to the internet if the VPN connection is interrupted.
Some other advanced features we’d really like to see are missing, though. There’s no LAN exemption, which means you can’t connect your Firestick to other devices on your local network while the VPN is active. There also isn’t any obfuscation available on the device.
We’ve not had too much luck connecting CyberGhost to US Netflix. Some days it works and other days it doesn’t.
We also haven’t been able to connect the BBC iPlayer with the app. Overall, CyberGhost isn’t the best choice for streaming on Firestick right now.
These are the main reasons to use a VPN with your Amazon Fire TV Stick:
Loads of content on Fire TV is geo-restricted, meaning you can’t access certain apps or videos based on your location. To unlock many apps and streaming content, you’ll need to install (or sideload) a VPN on your Firestick.
If you use Kodi add-ons, such as Exodus Redux or Tempest, then you need to use a safe VPN that keeps your real IP address hidden.
This is because you may accidentally stream copyrighted content, which is illegal and can land you in trouble. By connecting to a secure VPN server, you get a new anonymous IP address to protect your identity.

Running a VPN with both Firestick and Kodi is a popular combination. As a minimum, you’ll need a VPN which allows P2P traffic on its network in order to do this.

Modifying the DNS settings on your Amazon Fire TV Stick will make sure that all of its DNS requests are routed through the secure VPN tunnel.

It is not possible to install any VPN directly on a 1st generation Firestick.
